How Cove Drainage Works
At the end of a Cove cycle, the drain pump pushes wash water up through a hose and into your home drain, usually via the garbage disposal or an air gap under the sink. A one-way check valve keeps that water from flowing back into the tub. When water stays behind, one of the links in that chain is blocked or has failed, and the machine cannot complete its drain step.
The good news is that the most common causes are inexpensive. A base filter packed with food debris, or a drain hose that has been kinked behind the cabinet during an install, restricts flow long before the pump itself is at fault. We always rule those out first.

What You Can Try, and When to Book
Pull the base filter, rinse it under hot water, and clear any debris from the sump before you reseat it. If a new disposal was recently installed, confirm the knockout plug in its dishwasher port was removed, a surprisingly common cause of a brand-new drain problem. Running a rinse cycle then tells you whether the water clears.
If it still will not drain, the restriction is deeper in the hose or the pump has failed. We test the pump for continuity and free flow, clear the check valve, and replace any failed part with model-specific Cove components under our warranty.

Why Does My Cove Dishwasher Have Water in the Bottom?
A small amount in the sump is normal. A full tub of standing water means the drain step failed, usually because the filter, hose, or check valve is blocked, or the drain pump has stopped running.
Can a Garbage Disposal Cause a Cove Drainage Problem?
Yes. If a new disposal was installed and the knockout plug in its dishwasher inlet was not removed, the dishwasher has nowhere to drain. It is one of the first things we check after a recent kitchen change.
Is a Failed Drain Pump Worth Replacing?
